Job Description

Introduction Anticipated openings for the\r\n2024-2025 School Year.\r\n\r\n\r\nMaryland School for the\r\nDeaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community who in partnership with families,\r\nprovides an equitable and exemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and\r\nchallenging environment to ensure our students achieve personal excellence and\r\nbecome lifelong learners.\r\n
LOCATION OF POSITION
MSD, Frederick Campus, 101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21705\r\n Main Purpose of Job Enhanced Services Teacher Aides are responsible for working with individual students with moderate to severe disabilities and/or small groups on learning tasks planned by the teacher; tutor students in subject areas under the supervision of a teacher; participate in supervision of lunch, recess/reinforcement programs; prepare teaching materials, bulletin boards, charts, pictures, etc.; operate audio visual equipment; assist in planning and carrying out field trips; assist in clerical duties; implement behavior management programs as directed; collect and document behavioral data; improve professional competence through participation in staff development activities and other professional growth activities; participate in student after-school activities as appropriate; assume other responsibilities as designated by the Student Support Specialist/Enhanced Program Coordinator, Principal, or Chief Educational Programs Officer.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
Work with an\r\nindividual child or small group on a special learning task planned by the\r\nteacher and/or identified on the IEP.� Work as a tutor in a special\r\nsubject area.��Assist with recess/lunch duty/reinforcement or other\r\nrelated activities.� Assist in behavior modification and training programs\r\nwhen necessary including the collection of data, and support as needed. Help\r\nprepare teaching materials for the classroom.� Take children to other\r\nparts of the Campus, such as infirmary, library, dorm, etc.� Assist in all\r\naspects of field trips.��Obtain instructional materials from central\r\nsupply/office secretary.� Write all necessary reports and fill out all\r\nnecessary forms.� Participate in department meetings, trainings, and\r\nbehavior management meetings as necessary.\r\n\r\n\r\n
Physical Requirements:
Work\r\ninvolves special physical demands such as moving student equipment, assisting\r\nwith the evacuation of students with additional needs, overseeing the movement\r\nof students between buildings, managing student behavior, and assisting\r\nstudents with self-care tasks as needed, including toileting/diapering.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.\r\n\r\n\r\n
Experience:
Fluency in ASL and\r\nwritten English required.� Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred. Experience\r\nin working with deaf and hard of hearing students desired. Knowledge of\r\nstudents with additional disabilities and ability to teach students on\r\ndifferent levels and with varying educational background required.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of Deaf Community preferred.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

BENEFITS
\r\n\r\nContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r\nLeave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r\n\r\n\r\n
