Job Description
Recreation Program Aide - Youth Summer Camp (Summer 2026) 4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars The City of Takoma Park is seeking enthusiastic summer camp staff to work for the Recreation Department. There are positions open at both facilities (7315 New Hampshire Ave & 7500 Maple Ave). Incumbents will assist with assisting in leading a variety of camp activities including crafts, sports and more throughout the summer for ages 6-12. The typical work hours vary, as the program is open from 6:45 a.m. to 6:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. The dates for camp are June 29 - August 14, 2026 (except July 3) with additional mandatory pre-service training days in mid-June. Please note - this position is for seasonal, summer employment only. This position is not subject to membership in the AFSCME union. First resume review will begin February 27, 2026 but the position will remain open until filled.
Typical Duties include:
Providing customer service and general supervision of the summer camp program participants; Providing program support, including daily activities with program participants; Positively enforcing discipline problems and abiding by Recreation Department Discipline policy; Providing for a clean, safe and secure environment; Maintaining and operating the proper use of equipment and supplies by participants; Assisting with set-up and breakdown of the program at the beginning and end of the program; Administering first-aid, if necessary; Monitoring patrons, ensuring the rules are followed and that the patron's behavior is appropriate. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required to be successful are: General knowledge of youth programs; Ability to work outside in various weather conditions; Strong customer service skills; Ability to provide mature leadership, have fun, be flexible, and share enthusiasm; Neat and professional appearance and attitude; Work effectively and communicate with the public, supervisor, and fellow employees; Ability to interact effectively with all age levels, abilities, and cultural backgrounds; Must enjoy working with children, youth and young adults; Ability to follow written and oral instructions; The hourly rate for this position is expected to be between $18.21 and $19.04 per hour, and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. This position is not subject to membership in the AFSCME union. This position is eligible for the accrual of Safe & Sick Leave per Maryland guidelines.Minimum Qualifications include:
Must be 16-17 years of age. Possess or have the ability to possess Standard CPR/First Aid certifications.Similar remote jobs
