Job Description

Under the supervision of a teacher, performs a wide variety of duties to support student learning in the PreK classroom. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience :
HS diploma or equivalent. Attainment of ONE of the following qualifications is required: -Forty-eight (48) college credits - ParaPro Assessment with passing score of 455 or higher before 9/1/2026 https://parapro.ets.org/ -ParaPathways with minimum passing scores: Reading/Writing (332) and Mathematics (334)- Foundations of Classroom Support with a minimum passing score of 220 https://www.nestest.com/state/md Associates degree OR Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate preferred. Experience working with students in a pre-kindergarten classroom setting preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
N/A Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of working with early childhood students with varying abilities. Knowledge of the educational system. Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality about students. Willingness to participate in in-service training. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively communicate in English using appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and spelling. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
The work of this class is generally active and requires movement throughout the daily routine such as sitting on the floor with students, bending, kneeling, etc.
FLSA Status :
Non-Exempt Salary:
Grade 31- 35 depending on education. $23.05 - $38.04 (Hourly Base Pay Scale for Non-Exempt Paraeducators Represented by ESPBC, Effective July 1, 2026)

Pre-Employment Requirements:
All people employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (per COMAR) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109. Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US. If you have military experience, you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214. Official transcripts will be required upon hire and must be sent via escript/clearinghouse from your university. Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing. All newly hired personnel must attend a Benefits and Retirement Orientation meeting. Additional job verification will be required for salary credit .

OF DUTIES
Greets students and assists with arrival activities and breakfast. Assists students individually or in groups to reinforce learning established by the teacher, reteaches instructional concepts, helps with skill development, reads to students, assists students to effectively participate in learning centers, and facilitates cooperation and collaboration among students. Helps students with strengthening self-help skills, including toileting. Reinforces concepts and extends vocabulary. Uses a variety of strategies to help students solve problems or extend learning. Assists with recreational play and supervision of outdoor activities and field trip experiences. Assists in the preparation of instructional materials. Sets up materials for lessons. Maintains bulletin boards, display areas, and interest centers. Sets up, adjusts, cleans, operates, and performs minor maintenance on classroom equipment. May visually inspect equipment for damage. Oversees cleanup activities and assists with transitions in the PreK daily schedule. Helps to maintain an attractive, neat and safe classroom. Provides students with general support and assistance with sustaining attention. Performs a variety of administrative tasks, including taking attendance, collecting assignments and communication folders, collecting money, and transcribing future home assignments or correspondence. Collects student data and shares observations with teachers. Coverage of classes on a limited basis may occasionally be necessary. May be required to serve as lunch period monitors. May be required to operate a computer, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.
