The Lumen Scholars Program Assistant plays a key role in supporting first-year Lumen Scholars as they transition into college life and begin their journey in the Lumen Program. Program Assistants serve as peer mentors, connectors, and guides, helping new Lumens feel welcomed, supported, and grounded in place at McDaniel College. This role is designed for returning Lumen Scholars who are interested in leadership, mentorship, community-building, and experiential learning.RESPONSIBILITIES
Embed Course Support Attend assigned Embed class sessions throughout the fall semester (T/Th 1-2:30 PM in BMC 118 with Dr. Mohamed Esa). Serve as a familiar and approachable peer presence in the classroom. Assist with class logistics or activities as needed in collaboration with the course instructor and Lumen Scholars Program leadership. Peer Support & Mentorship Act as a resource for first-year Lumen Scholars as they navigate the Lumen Scholars Program and the College at large. Be available to meet with students informally (individually or in small groups) to offer guidance, referrals, or encouragement. Help connect students to campus resources, opportunities, and events. Community Building Plan and host at least one social or community-building event outside of class time for your Embed section. Events may be coordinated in collaboration with the Honors Club or other student organizations. Funding for approved events will be provided by the Lumen Scholars Program.SCHEDULE 3-4

QUALIFICATIONS
Current undergraduate student at McDaniel College. Current Lumen Scholar in good academic and disciplinary standing. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Interest in mentorship, leadership, and community engagement. Reliable, approachable, and enthusiastic about supporting new students. Name of one McDaniel faculty or staff member who can serve as a reference.Physical Characteristics:
This position requires the ability to attend in-person classes and campus events, communicate effectively with peers, and perform light physical activity such as walking across campus and carrying small event materials.
