per Bath Aide's Master Agreement Job Summary The Student Success Support Para-Professional plays a vital role in bridging the gap between school, home, and academic achievement for at-risk middle school students. This position focuses on providing direct academic accommodations, monitoring attendance, and collaborating with families to ensure students have the tools, plans, and support systems necessary to succeed. The ideal candidate is empathetic, proactive, and a strong communicator who can build trusting relationships with young adolescents and their families. This is a two hour per day position. Key Responsibilities 1.
Academic Support & Accommodations Assessment Support:
Read quizzes, exams, and standardized testing materials aloud to eligible students, ensuring testing accommodations are met with fidelity.
Performance Task Guidance:
Assist students in understanding instructions, breaking down complex performance tasks, and staying on track with project-based assignments.
Academic Interventions:
Work 1-on-1 or in small groups to reinforce classroom concepts and help students catch up on missing work. 2.
Family Engagement & Home Support Home-School Connection:
Act as a primary liaison between at-risk students' families and the school to foster a collaborative partnership.
At-Home Strategies:
Provide families with practical tools, routines, and resources to support their child's academic progress and homework completion at home.
Communication:
Maintain regular contact with parents/guardians regarding student progress, wins, and areas needing improvement. 3.
Attendance Advocacy Monitoring:
Track daily attendance patterns for targeted at-risk students.
Intervention:
Reach out to families when absences occur to identify barriers to school attendance (e.g., transportation, illness, anxiety).
Problem-Solving:
Work collaboratively with students, parents, and school staff to develop strategies that encourage consistent, on-time school attendance. 4.
Student Success Planning Grade Recovery:
Identify students currently failing or at risk of failing classes.
Success Plans:
Partner with the student and teachers, to co-create individualized "Student Success Plans" featuring realistic goals, deadlines, and actionable steps.
Accountability:
Meet regularly with students to review their plans, track grade improvements, and celebrate milestones. 5. Other Duties Perform other student-centered duties as assigned by administration (e.g., check-in/check-out mentoring, assisting with school-wide intervention programs, etc.).
Qualifications & Skills Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required (Associate's degree or 60+ college credits preferred). Experience working with middle school-aged youth, particularly youth deemed at-risk or facing socioeconomic/academic barriers.
Required Skills:
Empathy & Patience:
Deep understanding of the emotional and social development of middle school students.
Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak with families from diverse backgrounds with dignity and respect.
Organization:
Strong tracking, documentation, and time-management skills to manage multiple student success plans simultaneously.
Collaboration:
Ability to work seamlessly as part of a multidisciplinary team (teachers, social workers, administration). Working Conditions & Physical Demands Standard school environment (classroom, media center, main office). Frequent movement throughout the building to check on students.
