Competitive salary Training & development About Summer Discovery Summer Discovery is a free, high-quality summer learning program funded by the Ballmer Group and administered through United Way for Southeastern Michigan. The program is designed to prevent summer learning loss and foster personal growth for students across the region, blending hands-on academic instruction, enrichment activities, and social-emotional learning. The Rhonda Walker Foundation is proud to host the Summer Discovery program this year, providing rising 7th-10th grade students in Metro Detroit with engaging ELA/Literacy and Math instruction in a supportive, community-centered environment. Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated, energetic, and reliable Teacher's Assistant to support our Summer Program staff and students throughout the program. The Teacher's Assistant will help create a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment for youth participating in academic enrichment, STEAM activities, and career readiness programming. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young people, is organized, patient, and passionate about education and youth developmentResponsibilities:
Assist lead teachers and facilitators during daily programming and activities Support students with academic assignments, projects, and classroom participation Help supervise students during transitions, enrichment activities, and breaks Assist with classroom setup, organization, and cleanup Encourage positive behavior and student engagement Help distribute materials and supplies for lessons and activities Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants Communicate effectively with program staff regarding student needs and daily operationsMandatory In-Person Training :
There will also be another in-person orientation/training required for all staff prior to program start date. (Date & Time - TBD) Pay Rate for Training is $25/hr Qualifications High school diploma required; a high school diploma or GED, with many positions requiring at least two years of college coursework or an associate degree.(Individuals pursuing education, social work, youth development, or related fields are encouraged to apply) Experience working with youth and classroom management skills preferred Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work collaboratively with staff and students Dependable, professional, and punctual Positive attitude and willingness to support program needsSimilar jobs in Detroit, MI
