Job Description

Description:
The Special Education Paraprofessional supports students with disabilities in academic, behavioral, social, and daily living activities under the supervision of a certified special education teacher. This role helps ensure students receive appropriate accommodations and access to the general education curriculum while promoting independence, inclusion, and positive behavior.
Requirements:
Student Support Provide one-on-one or small group instructional support to students with disabilities. Assist students in completing academic assignments and following classroom routines. Reinforce instructional concepts introduced by the teacher. Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior plans. Classroom Assistance Prepare instructional materials, visual aids, and classroom resources. Help maintain an organized, structured, and inclusive classroom environment. Assist with transitions between activities and classes. Supervise students during classroom activities, recess, lunch, field trips, and other school functions as needed. Behavioral and Social Support Implement behavior intervention strategies as directed by the teacher or specialist. Encourage appropriate social interactions and communication skills. Monitor and document student progress, behaviors, and responses to interventions. Personal Care (when required) Assist students with personal care tasks such as toileting, feeding, mobility, or hygiene when necessary. Ensure student safety at all times, including during mobility or medical needs. Collaboration and Communication Work closely with special education teachers, general education teachers, therapists, and other staff. Participate in team meetings and professional development when required. Maintain confidentiality of student information in compliance with FERPA and school policies.
