Job Description:
The Sundrop School seeks a full-time Assistant Preschool Teacher to join our teaching team. Our Nature-Based, Montessori preschool & kindergarten program is for children ages 2.5-6. The mission of The Sundrop School is to provide a nurturing, educationally-rich, early childhood environment that meets the developmental needs of the whole child while initiating children into a lifelong, meaningful relationship with the natural world.
Program Description:
The Sundrop School primary program offers mixed-age session for children ages two and a half to six. These sessions run from approximately 8:00 am to 3:00 pm and have a 1:8 or 1:10 teacher-child ratio. We are looking for someone to work from 7:30am-3:30 pm Monday through Friday. The children spend a minimum of 2 hours per day outdoors in nature. Approximately 45 min - 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon.
Job Description:
The Assistant Teacher will work closely with the Lead Teacher, and provide support with guiding lessons, observing students, and other classroom tasks. The assistant teacher will report directly to the Sundrop Lead Teacher. This assistant teacher must love children, love being outdoors for extended periods of time in all weather, and have a positive, fun-loving attitude. Not Montessori trained? That's okay! While the Montessori experience is a plus, we are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting a child's innate love of learning, and who is willing to learn and be trained in the Montessori method.

Willingness to work hard - You have the aptitude, stamina, time, and appetite to help create a child-centered classroom, with the help and support of the Lead Teacher. You are a clear communicator and take direction easily. You enjoy learning new methods to teach and observe students. You take initiative in the classroom with students and with your development as a teacher. You are passionate about child-led education and development and believe that children are innately curious and have a strong desire to learn and be independent. You are passionate about nature and enjoy immersing in and learning about the natural world. Experience with children (not your own) or expereince in a licensed child care center is required. An associates degree/ bachelor's degree is not required, but also preferred. You are looking to make this job a focal point in your career and plan to keep this position for a minimum of 3 years. Children enrolled at The Sundrop School often spend 2-3 years in the preschool classroom. Having consistent teachers lead them to greater success within our environment and beyond. You believe children are our future and find them to be hilarious and a joy to be around!
Job Responsibilities:
Help prepare the classroom environment, materials, and equipment; ensure that all materials are in good repair and all sets complete. Develop and make materials when needed. Plan and implement the Montessori curriculum. Give appropriate presentations of materials and activities, and support the Lead Teacher in maintaining a record-keeping system to track the children's progress. Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to develop a vision for an authentic Montessori classroom to serve the diversity of the local community. Co-plan and co-host Parent Education events twice a year with the Lead Teacher. Assist in the planning and maintenance of the outdoor environment. Assist in assessing prospective children when they visit the school. Provide first aid as needed and complete appropriate forms for parents. Assist with classroom operational tasks, including meal prep, toileting/diapering assistance, and cleaning.

From $18.00 per hour
