Job Description

All Northstar Montessori teachers are guides who help direct the children's academic, emotional, and physical development in a prepared and peaceful Montessori environment that challenges each child to reach his/her fullest potential. The Assistant Teacher helps the Lead Teacher set up, operate, and maintain the classroom with the order and neatness characteristic of the Montessori environment. The Assistant Teacher shall practice collaborative communication with all families and staff, striving to become the most effective educator possible. Assistant Teacher applicants must have a High School Diploma or equivalent, have a clear background check when fingerprinted, and enjoy working with children. Experience caring for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years old, and familiarity with Montessori principles is helpful, but not required--we are willing to train the right applicant. Duties and Requirements include, but are not limited to: Possess an attitude which shows belief in the Montessori philosophy and pride in the work that is being done. Carry out duties and work schedules in a consistent manner. Attend all staff meetings. Consistently arrive at work in a timely fashion. Respect and adhere to all safety requirements. Work collaboratively with the Director, fellow Teachers, and other Support Staff. Take direction from the Lead Teacher in the classroom. Model a peaceful learning environment. Keep the classroom environment clean and orderly. Work with other teachers on special programming and school events. Assist Lead Teacher in observing and keeping records on students' individual development Inform Lead Teacher of any classroom difficulties, including discipline, health, equipment needs, repair and maintenance. Keep up with required professional development of 16 hours/school year (including CPR & First Aid).
