Full Job Description Position Overview:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Allied Healthcare ESL Instructor to join our school for our Medical Assistant and Pharmacy Technician courses. This could be an individual role (6 hours) or combined role (12 hours). As an Allied Healthcare ESL Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering English language instruction specifically tailored to individuals working in various allied healthcare professions, such as clinical medical assistant, pharmacy technician, phlebotomy, and ECG. The allied healthcare curriculums are established. Your role will be to support the online approved curriculum, deliver engaging lessons, and support students in developing their language skills for effective communication in healthcare settings.
Qualifications:
Preferred Education:
Possess a bachelor's or master's degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Education, Healthcare, or a related field.
Healthcare Background:
Strong background or experience in allied healthcare with a solid understanding of healthcare terminology, practices, and communication needs.
English Language Proficiency:
Native or near-native English proficiency, with excellent speaking, writing, listening, and reading skills. Additional proficiency in medical terminology and jargon used in allied healthcare is an advantage.
Cultural Competence:
Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds within the allied healthcare field.
Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, colleagues, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders.
Technology Proficiency:
Proficiency in using technology and educational tools to enhance instruction, including multimedia resources, learning management systems, and virtual communication platforms.
Responsibilities:
Curriculum:
Follow lesson plans specifically focused on teaching English language skills relevant to allied healthcare professions. Lesson plans are contextualized and follow the healthcare certification curriculum.
Language Instruction:
Deliver prepared interactive and engaging English language instruction to adult learners, targeting areas such as healthcare terminology, patient communication, medical documentation, professional writing, and healthcare ethics.
Progress Monitoring:
Regular formal and informal assessing students' progress, providing timely feedback and guidance for improvement. Communicate with Student Success Advisor on student progress and areas of concern.
Individualized Support:
Provide individualized instruction and support to address the unique learning needs and challenges of each student, offering additional resources and guidance as necessary.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with educational vendors to ensure alignment between language instruction and the specific healthcare context.
