Byron Public Schools Position Summary The Substitute Bus Paraprofessional provides supervision, support, and assistance to students while they are being transported to and from school. This position works closely with the bus driver and school staff to ensure students have a safe, positive, and supportive transportation experience. Essential Duties Supervise students while riding the school bus. Assist students with safely boarding and exiting the bus. Provide additional support to students who require assistance during transportation. Help maintain a safe and respectful bus environment. Follow student safety plans, transportation procedures, and district policies. Communicate student concerns or incidents to the bus driver and appropriate school staff. Assist with transitions between the bus and school. Maintain confidentiality regarding students and their needs. Schedule On-call substitute as needed when regular scheduled paraprofessionals are absent; generally divided between a morning and afternoon bus route. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience working with children or students is preferred. Ability to work cooperatively with students, families, bus drivers, teachers, and other staff. Ability to remain calm and supportive when assisting students with behavioral or other needs.
