Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Flexible shifts Mon-Friday 6 am-8 am and/or 3 pm - 6 pm The School Age Program Aide provides safe, high-quality before, after, and all-day care for school-age children. This position assists with implementing daily program plans and activities, supervises and actively engages children, supports positive behavior, and helps maintain a welcoming environment for children and families. The School Age Program Aide carries out the Itasca County Family YMCA mission and values through professional, dependable and caring service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & JOB DUTIES
Assist with implementation of daily plans, activities and routines for the before- and after-school program. Actively supervise school-age children and participate with children in activities, games, enrichment and recreation. Provide calm, consistent redirection and support positive behavior and age-appropriate social skills. Assist with activity preparation, clean up and general room or program-site maintenance. Maintain program areas, supplies and equipment in a safe and orderly condition. Follow established procedures for child arrival, attendance, transitions and authorized pick-up/release. Communicate with parents/guardians and staff with professionalism and respect. Follow applicable meal and snack procedures, including CACFP requirements when applicable to the program. Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law and YMCA policy. Assist children with personal hygiene, toileting or other care needs as appropriate for the child and program. Maintain strict confidentiality of information regarding children, families and staff. Attend required in-service trainings and staff meetings to remain informed about children, safety and program needs. Be on time, dependable and prepared for assigned shifts. Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers. Attend required abuse risk management trainings. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements. Other duties deemed necessary by the School Age Director or program supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum age of 16; age 18 preferred. Ability to pass a background check Adult, Child and Infant CPR, First Aid and AED certifications within 30 days of hire (training provided by the YMCA). Strong commitment to quality childcare and youth development. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A commitment to working with school-age children in a developmental setting and a sincere desire to have a meaningful effect on their lives. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, abilities, opinions and experiences. Ability to report to work on time and be dependable. Meet required annual training requirements.
WORK CONDITIONS
Perform all physical aspects of the position, including frequently moving around, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs. at a time Ability and willingness to work with children and staff outdoors and in gym and swimming pool settings is required. Environment may be noisy and active. May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids.
Pay:
$13.00 - $15.00 per hour
