Job Description

Adult Day at the J offers two specialized programs: Connections for older adults with Alzheimer's, dementia, and other cognitive/physical impairments, and IN for those over 18 with intellectual disabilities. Both programs help maintain skills, discover new abilities, and achieved individual goals through cognitive, social, physical, and recreational activities. Adult Day at the J is accredited by the State of Missouri and licensed by the Missouri Dept of Health and Senior Services. This position has two pay rates. When driving, the staff member will be compensated at $20 per hour. As a Program Assistant, one will make $18.50 per hour.
Summary:
Transports participants to and from their homes. the J, and community settings, providing physical support as needed. Delivers personalized services aligned with each program.
Driver Responsibilities:
Assist participants on and off the bus/van, including operating lifts, pushing wheelchairs, and securing adaptive equipment. Provide transportation for community outings as required. Ensure proper seating and safety restraints at all times. Inspect vehicles daily and report maintenance needs. Maintain a clean bus/van and CDL license. Provide feedback on routes and program logistics.
Program Assistant Responsibilities:
Support participants in group activities (swimming, exercise, volunteering, art, music, gardening, cooking) and assist directly during these activities. Develop and implement activities that promote cognitive, social, physical, and independent skills. Complete documentation for compliance with state and agency regulations. Facilitate accommodations, transitions, and sensory breaks as needed. Intervene appropriately in behavior or health crises. Work with the multidisciplinary team to enhance programs. Assist participants with mobility, personal care, and meals. Enforce safety and emergency procedures. Greet families and provide exceptional customer service. Attend meetings, training, and assist with agency events. Adhere to confidentiality, HIPAA, and Social Work Code of Ethics. CDL (A, B, or C) or Class E driver's license. Must pass annual DOT physical exam and requirements. High school diploma or GED. CPR/First Aid certification (training provided). Registration on MO Family Care Safety Registry. Negative TB/PPD, drug screen, and passing physical exam. 1+ year experience working with older adults or individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities preferred. Ability to physically assist participants up to 250 lbs., including lifting, transferring, and mobility support. Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. Competency with Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn new applications. Ability to participate in physical activities, including swimming and field trips. Flexibility to work within operating hours (7:30am-5pm, M-F), including some evenings and weekends.
