Summary
A Paraprofessional II•Motor Lab employee provides structured, research-informed academic, enrichment, and/or sensory-based instruction and interventions to support students' learning. This role collaborates closely with general education teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to improve student access to instruction.
The Paraprofessional designs and implements developmentally appropriate activities that strengthen academic performance, problem-solving, creativity, gross motor skills, coordination, sensory processing, and self-regulation, ensuring that all students are supported in achieving academic and behavioral success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and implement structured learning activities aligned with student needs.
Provide instructional supports, including:
Whole-class or group instruction
Targeted small-group instruction
Design and implement structured lesson plans and activities aligned to academic content, student developmental needs, and program focus (e.g., motor/sensory development or STEAM enrichment).
Assume responsibility for classroom management, supervision, and safe operation of the instructional lab environment.
Collaborate with:
Classroom teachers to integrate instructional content and strategies
Occupational therapists and physical therapists to align interventions
School counselors and behavior teams to support student regulation
Create and maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
Support transitions and provide proactive regulation strategies for students exhibiting behavioral or attention challenges.
Ensure all equipment is used safely and maintained appropriately.
Participate in IEP, 504, and problem-solving team meetings as appropriate.
Uphold district policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned related to student instruction and support.
Qualifications
Valid Missouri ParaPro Certificate or 60 hours of college credit.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of child development, including academic, motor, and/or sensory integration.
Understanding of instructional strategies that support student engagement, problem-solving, and self-regulation.
Ability to design and implement structured learning activities aligned with instructional goals.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Ability to manage groups of students safely in an active environment.
Ability to obtain and maintain CPI certification.
Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
Physical Demands
Active environment requiring standing, walking, lifting, and movement throughout the day.
Regular use of instructional materials and/or specialized equipment.
Requires vigilance to maintain student safety in a dynamic setting.
Attendance
Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
Conditions and Environment
The Paraprofessional works in an active instructional setting designed to support student learning, engagement, and development.
Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and active supervision of students.
Works in a structured environment with specialized materials or equipment depending on program focus.
Maintains a safe, organized, and well-supervised space with consistent routines and expectations.
Ensures proper use and maintenance of materials and follows all district safety procedures.
