TAs are required to perform duties equivalent to approximately 15-20 hours per week. Required Qualifications Enroll in and successfully complete a course in pedagogy within one semester or concurrently of TA appointment.
  • Maintain full-time status in the MMES program
  • Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.00.
  • Work no more than 20 hours per week in a combination of all other UVI employment.
  • Become familiar with UVI Human Resources policies and procedures including the anti-discrimination policy, harassment, and sexual misconduct policy, and attend training pertinent to these policies.
  • Dedicate ~15 hours per week (averaged over the semester) to TA duties.
  • Approach the TAship as a learning experience complementary to other aspects of graduate education.
  • Become familiar with university and college or school policies, requirements, and deadlines pertaining to topics such as academic integrity, safety protocols, maintaining a classroom respectful of diversity, as well as the Registrar's procedures and deadlines and the most recent graduate bulletin (version 2025).
  • Acquire proficiency in the course content and methodologies, complemented by appropriate pedagogical methods.
  • Take advantage of departmental and university programs that enhance pedagogical knowledge and proficiencies.
  • Manage the assigned TA responsibilities along with other academic work, keeping to deadlines, and advancing appropriately through academic milestones.
  • Meet regularly with the faculty supervisor, request feedback, and seek opportunities to continually develop pedagogical proficiencies.
  • Hold regularly scheduled office hours.
