09/25/2026 Special Education Teacher Assistant Lee Hunter Elementary Classified Position 2026-2027 Reports to:Principal and Teacher General Summary:
Performs duties under general supervision to assist the teacher in providing skills to students in accordance with district policies and procedures. The Teacher Assistant will have good people skills, flexibility, the ability to work under pressure and stay on task, and the ability to adjust to change. Furthermore, the Teacher Assistant will be responsible, reliable, and a self-starter.Essential Functions:
1. Assist with instruction and activities as assigned by teacher. Assist with work activities. 2. Prepare, create, and/or adapt instructional materials as directed by teacher. Assist students with assignments. 3. Assist the teacher with implementation of instructional strategies in the classroom that respect individual differences, foster student achievement, and maintain supportive and inclusive environments. 4. Perform support tasks to enhance the effectiveness of the learning environment. 5. Demonstrate continued professional growth to meet changes in the position. 6. Perform related duties, as assigned. 7. Supervise student(s) in cafeteria or at recess or as assigned by supervising teacher/administrator. 8. Strictly adhere to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students, parents, parent communications, and/or classroom activities. 9. Carry out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions, and new or emergency situations. 10. Perform routine instructional and non-instructional support tasks, including clerical duties and use of adaptive/assistive equipment or technology.Qualifications:
Education level- Substitute teaching certificate is required and either a minimum of sixty (60) college credit hours, or paraprofessional exam Works well with children Ability to follow the instruction of the teacher(s) to whom the assistant is assigned. Other requirements
- Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education.
