Overview:
The Exceptional Children's Teacher Assistant supports students with disabilities in achieving their educational goals and fostering an inclusive learning environment. This position works closely with the Exceptional Children's Teacher and other staff to provide individualized support tailored to each student's needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Exceptional Children's Teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapting lessons to meet students' unique needs.
Support students in academic activities, providing guidance and encouragement.
Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and social interactions.
Implement behavior management strategies and support positive social skills development.
Help with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom resources.
Provide assistance with daily living skills, including self-care, mobility, and personal organization.
Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect and acceptance.
Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and parents to communicate student progress and needs.
Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Ensure a safe and orderly environment for students during classroom and transitional activities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Exceptional Children's Teacher or school administration.
Qualifications:
Associate degree or 48 college credit hours.
Experience working with children, especially those with disabilities, is highly desirable.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting children with exceptional needs.
Basic understanding of special education laws and practices is a plus.
Working Conditions:
This position may involve physical activities, including lifting and assisting students with mobility.
