OAK CITY ACADEMY FULL-TIME PRIMARY ASSISTANT TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION

Assistant Primary (PreK-K)Teacher Hours:
5 days a week: (8AM-4:00PM) during the academic year. Summary The Assistant Teacher is responsible for supporting the lead teacher in classroom management, maintaining an organized and beautiful learning environment, and meeting the needs of the children to ensure an optimal teaching environment. Duties include managing the classroom, assisting during lessons, supervising children during recess and enrichment periods, helping with special projects, and performing clerical and cleaning tasks as needed. The assistant teacher also serves as a supportive presence when the lead teacher is absent, helping to maintain a positive and nurturing atmosphere that aligns with Oak City Academy's (OCA) mission. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent, Bachelors degree preferred Aptitude for the work to be performed Interest in children and education Desire to assist students in a learning environment Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work with Student Information Software Ability to work with communication platform Composition skill to communicate in writing to parents as well as produce weekly updates, as directed by the Lead Teacher. Essential Functions The Primary Assistant maintains a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom while supporting daily routines such as carpool, attendance, snack preparation, and student supervision. They guide student behavior and learning, assist with classroom instruction and care needs, and communicate any concerns to the lead teacher. The assistant also handles clerical tasks, may step in as acting lead teacher when needed, and upholds professionalism by ensuring safety, confidentiality, and ongoing development. Physical Demands The physical demands of this position are generally limited to occasional moving of supplies and other light furniture. Other duties involve walking and playing with students.
