Job Description
Teacher's Assistant - Afterschool Program Position Summary The Teacher's Assistant plays a key role in supporting the afterschool program by helping provide a safe, structured, and welcoming environment for students. This individual will assist with student arrival and dismissal, provide supervision during transitions, and serve as an extra set of hands to the Lead Teacher to ensure smooth program operations. Key Responsibilities Greet students as they arrive by bus and escort them safely into the facility. Walk students over from the local school to the program site, ensuring safe transitions. Assist the Lead Teacher with classroom management, activities, and supervision. Support students with homework, enrichment activities, and social-emotional skill building as directed. Monitor student safety, behavior, and engagement in alignment with program policies. Help prepare and organize materials and spaces for daily activities. Provide positive encouragement and serve as a role model for students. Communicate effectively with staff, students, and families as needed. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (some college or coursework in education/child development preferred). Prior experience working with children in a school, childcare, or youth program setting preferred. Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills. Dependable, responsible, and able to manage transitions safely. Ability to pass background checks. Work Schedule & Conditions Part-time; afternoon hours, typically Monday-Friday (3-5:30 pm) aligned with school dismissal and afterschool program times. Must be able to walk with and supervise groups of students. Requires standing, walking, and light physical activity.
