PURPOSE STATEMENT
The job of the Instructional Assistant is to provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for collaborating with classroom teachers to work with small groups of students, assisting the teachers with identified students in need of intervention or enrichment, and maintaining related records.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum education requirement: Associate's Degree or equivalent; Experience working in an educational environment (substitute teaching, tutoring, etc.)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists individual or small groups of students with all curricular areas for the purpose of building background knowledge, practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts, and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards; Collaborates with classroom teachers regarding student progress for the purpose of developing a successful learning environment and identifying appropriate tools and resources; Conducts assessments under the supervision of classroom teachers for the purpose of evaluating students' instructional needs; Maintains manual and electronic files and records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reference, providing a safe learning environment, and/or meeting mandated requirements; Ability to implement academic and behavioral interventions, as needed; Organize and ready instructional materials for use in small groups (i.e. books, manipulatives, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials for presenting and/or reinforcing concepts; Reports student-specific progress and observations for the purpose of assisting the teachers in implementing instructional plans; Support in supervising students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips, as needed; Participates in meetings, in-service presentations, and professional learning as assigned for the purpose of acquiring and/or communicating information relative to job functions; Understands and adheres to established policies and procedures; Observes confidentiality and safeguards all student related information; Reports to the supervising teacher about student incidents/variances or complaints.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
Instructional Assistants to Media will have the following additional functions: Assist the Librarian with the following responsibilities: Support in supervising students and monitoring the Circulation Desk to oversee library book management during classes, between classes, during lunch, and during special events (Book Fair, guest speakers, etc); Maintains manual and electronic files and records for the purpose of circulation reports, library book management, and processing of new resources; Collaborates with librarian and classroom teachers regarding student progress for the purpose of developing a successful and engaging learning environment and identifying appropriate tools and resources; Assist the Instructional Technology Facilitator with the following responsibilities: Supports in supervising students and monitoring the Technology Lab to oversee student use of technology during classes; Serves as first point of contact to troubleshoot student and staff technology needs (hardware and software); Supports the distribution and collection of technology equipment and maintains manual and electronic files and records for the purpose of asset management; Participate in district Instructional Assistant to Media professional learning opportunities specific to the role
