Summary of Position:
Bismarck State College is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Assistant Teaching Professor of Music - Instrumentation to join our faculty. The successful candidate will support student success by directing instrumental ensembles, including Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Pep Band. This role involves a commitment to excellent teaching, student mentoring, and active participation in campus activities.
COMPENSATION
Full-Time, special non-tenure track position. Competitive salary based on directly related experience and education. 9 months: $47,100 - $58,874 Comprehensive fringe benefit package to include TIAA retirement plan 100% employer-paid family health insurance, life insurance, retirement, employee tuition waiver, spouse/dependent tuition discount. Key Responsibilities:
Directing instrumental ensembles, including Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Pep Band Preparing music for BSC events Recruiting students for performance ensembles May also include teaching courses such as Music Theory I & II, Aural Skills I & II, Applied Lessons, Music Appreciation, and World Music Facilitating State and Regional music festivals Participation in professional organizations such as NDMEA Assessing students Committee work Coordination with ensemble instructors, Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Appropriate music-related master's degree Demonstrated successful experience with conducting concert bands or other large ensembles Documented successful experience with private music lessons Documented successful experience with recruiting collegiate students Documented successful experience directing pep band Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups and ability to work as a team member Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Good working knowledge of computer software programs (i.e., Microsoft Office, email, & electronic calendar - Outlook) Creative in using a variety of teaching resources, media, and instructional technologies Preferred Qualifications Earned doctorate (PhD or DMA) Experience with distance delivery of courses College teaching experience Active member in a state organization such as NDMEA Experience with community and school outreach for music Experience with a wide range of repertoire (i.e., classical, contemporary, multicultural, etc.) Experience with concert planning, budgeting, and event coordination Interview Process Candidates selected for interviews will be asked to prepare and deliver a presentation as part of the interview process. Applicants should prepare and present three concert program concepts: Pep band for a basketball game Joint vocal and instrumental concert Chamber groups concert Candidates will have approximately 10 minutes to explain their planning process, artistic vision, repertoire selection, and rationale for each program.
