Job Description

Community Action Region VI is seeking a dedicated and passionate Teacher Assistant in our 3-5 Head Start program. The Teacher Assistant supports the Teacher in implementing a developmentally appropriate, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment for children ages 3 to 5. This position assists in delivering the Head Start curriculum, promoting school readiness, and ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and local policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Be familiar with developmentally appropriate practices of children ages 3 to 5. Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of children. Assist in the arrangement and upkeep of the classroom including all classroom equipment and materials. Eat meals and snacks with the children, assist with the development of good nutritional habits, and teach table manners. Supervise children at all times, including on the playground, in the classroom, during meals, and on field trips. Help children establish good habits with toileting and personal hygiene. Create a clean, safe, and stimulating environment that promotes exploration and learning. Work collaboratively with all staff to maintain compliance with all program regulations. Adhere to Community Action Code of Ethics and Confidentiality policy. All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or willingness to obtain within two years of hire (per Head Start Act requirements). Community Action Region VI will assist with this. Ability to communicate effectively with young children, parents, and coworkers. Dependable and able to work independently or as part of a team. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities. Preference given to candidates with early childhood experience or knowledge of Head Start performance standards and curriculum. This position is 40 hours per week with full benefits through the school year.
