Job Description

kindergarten assistant teacher The Kindergarten Assistant Teacher reports directly to the Kindergarten Primary Teacher. The Kindergarten Assistant Teacher supports the classroom teacher by assisting with instruction and tasks to accomplish classroom objectives. In the classroom, the responsibilities of the role may include helping to prepare classroom curriculum materials, supporting circle time, engaging children in learning center activities, working with students who need additional instruction, and discussing students' progress with their teacher. Assistant teachers may work with small groups of students or with one student at a time. Additionally, they may confer with teachers on student performance, and they may oversee students outside of the classroom during recess, drop-off and pick-up, field trips, and related activities. The Kindergarten Assistant Teacher will seek to model the school's philosophy, which focuses on the education of the whole child with an emphasis on promoting each child's self-esteem and social development. They will take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Work hours between 7:30am and 3:30pm Monday - Thursday and 7:30am and 2:30pm Fridays Attend and help facilitate four Saturday school days throughout the academic year Help create a developmentally appropriate, positive, caring, and inclusive environment that cultivates motivation and enthusiasm for and growth in learning in the classroom Support Specials teachers (PA, Art, and Music) Monitor and engage with students in a variety of activities and educational settings (e.g. classroom, playground, lunchtime, etc.) and ensure safety at all times Handle social, emotional, and behavioral issues as they arise Demonstrate courtesy, compassion, and respect in relating to children, families, visitors, and coworkers Report safety and wellness incidents to maintain students' personal safety and adhere to state laws Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment Implement classroom curriculum, learning centers, and activities Ensure the classroom is aesthetically attractive so that students enjoy their surroundings while learning Help plan lessons and daily activities based on the principles of child development Ensure the development of positive relationships with children Observe each child and assist in assessing skills, interests, and needs, and use this information to facilitate individual learning and growth Provide a comforting presence with the children
Qualification Requirements:
A minimum of ECE credits or an Associate's degree in elementary school or early childhood education Outstanding organizational skills Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and empathetic approach Excellent oral and written communication skills Detail-oriented High-energy and enthusiastic about working as a member of the Kindergarten team Must be able to participate in a physically active program
