Job Description

Teachers Assistant Brookfield Schools, a progressive private school for students with emotional disabilities, is seeking a full-time Teachers Assistant who holds a current NJ Substitute Teaching Certificate or is eligible to obtain one. This is a 10-month, full-time position. The successful candidate will assist small groups of students receiving education at our Inspira program starting this September. The hours are 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Moday-Friday. A competitive salary and benefits are offered.
EOE Responsibilities:
The Teacher Assistant position is primarily a job involving educational support for teaching staff; providing instructional information for students to acquire the learning of their approved curriculum; supervising students under the direct oversight of teaching staff, assisting the teaching staff with clerical duties within and for the classroom, and supervising students while teaching staff is unavailable. Supervision includes maintaining visual observation of students at all times, monitoring of students behavior by giving appropriate corrective feedback and/or positive praise, maintaining a trusting relationship with students, and dealing with behavioral problems by teaching students to be responsible for their behavior. An assistant is expected to follow through with the assignment of consequences for negative behavior according to approved policies and procedures. Most hold a current NJ Substitute Teacher Certification.

Teacher Assistant Qualifications:
High school diploma, 60 college credits with Substitute Certification.
Relationships:
Works in conjunction with the teacher in charge of the given class, activity or program and under the supervision of Administration.
Responsibilities:
The Teacher Assistant provides educational support for teaching staff and students; providing instructional information for students to acquire the learning of their approved curriculum; supervising students in conjunction with the teaching staff, assisting with clerical duties within and for the classroom, and supervising students while teaching staff is unavailable. Supervision includes maintaining visual observation of students at all times, monitoring of students behavior by giving appropriate corrective feedback and/or positive praise, maintaining a trusting relationship with students, and dealing with behavioral difficulties by teaching students the correct behavior and to be responsible for their behavioral choices. An assistant is expected to follow through with behavioral expectations in the Student Success System.
General Duties:
1. Assists the teaching and clinical staff with the overall implementation of the school program. 2. Assists the assigned teaching or clinical staff with the implementation of a given class, group or activity. 3. Helps provide supervision of students as assigned, including: A. During arrival and dismissal. B. During "breaks," electives and transitioning between classes. C. Assisting teachers during a crisis situation, IEPS and lunch breaks. D. otherwise, as assigned by the Administration. 4. Gives the teaching staff general feedback concerning student behavior for the purpose of daily and weekly student performance evaluations. Assists in maintaining student records. Reports behavior difficulties on incident report forms on LiveSchool or Realtime. 5. Attends all staff and committee meetings, in-services and special events, etc. as assigned. 6. Performs such other duties as may be designated by the Executive Director/Superintendent.
