8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Position Summary Far Hills Country Day School, an independent Preschool through Grade 8 school located in Far Hills, New Jersey, seeks a caring, energetic, and dependable Preschool Assistant Teacher to support the lead teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children. General Purpose and Function Facilitate daily classroom activities, support children's social-emotional growth, and contribute to a positive, engaging classroom community. Supervise and engage students in academic, social, and play-based learning experiences. Assist with classroom routines, transitions, and arrival procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Support the lead teacher in preparing materials and implementing daily lessons, centers, and activities. Supervise and engage students in academic, social, and play-based learning experiences. Assist with classroom routines, transitions, arrival and dismissal procedures, and behavior guidance. Support children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development through positive interactions and encouragement. Work with small groups or individual students to reinforce learning objectives and developmental skills. Assist students with self-help skills, including handwashing, snack time, dressing, and toileting as needed. Help maintain a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming classroom environment. Monitor students during indoor and outdoor play, ensuring safety and active engagement. Foster positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Qualifications A certification or degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is highly preferred. Previous experience working with preschool-aged children in an independent school. Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices. Passion for working with young children and supporting their growth and learning. Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain a positive, patient, and flexible approach in a dynamic classroom environment. Physical Requirements Ability to actively supervise and engage with young children throughout the school day. Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed. Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor activities in varying weather conditions.
