This role is designed for an experienced educator who can work collaboratively with a Head Teacher while also stepping into a lead role when needed to ensure consistency, stability, and a high-quality classroom experience. We are located in a beautiful, newly designed space in the Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood of Jersey City, just blocks from Liberty State Park. About the Role Assistant Head Teachers play a key role in maintaining a smooth, well-run classroom and supporting continuity across the program. This is a hands-on, active role that requires flexibility, strong awareness, and the ability to shift between supporting and leading throughout the day. This role is ideal for an educator who is confident in the classroom, dependable, and interested in growing into a Head Teacher position. What You'll Do Work closely with the Head Teacher to maintain a consistent, organized, and well-run classroom Step into a lead role when needed to ensure continuity of care and classroom stability Support daily routines, including meals, rest time, transitions, and classroom flow Provide attentive, nurturing care to infants and toddlers throughout the day Help maintain a clean, safe, and thoughtfully prepared classroom environment Engage children through play, exploration, and early learning experiences Support classroom activities, workshops, and outdoor play Follow and uphold classroom systems, expectations, and program standards Collaborate with leadership and team members to support overall program needs Child Development & Care Support the development of the whole child by fostering a warm, responsive, and engaging environment Assist in observing children's needs and development, sharing insights with the Head Teacher Help create a calm, consistent environment that supports social-emotional development and early learning Who This Role Is For This role is for educators who: Have experience leading or co-leading a classroom and are confident supporting a Head Teacher while also stepping into leadership when needed Are dependable and capable of stepping in to lead a classroom to ensure continuity and stability Are collaborative and enjoy working closely as part of a classroom team Are solution-oriented and take initiative to support both the classroom and overall program needs Are flexible and able to shift between hands-on care, classroom support, and leadership responsibilities throughout the day Are creative and engaged, bringing energy and ideas into the classroom Value structure, consistency, and a high-quality classroom environment Are interested in growing into a Head Teacher role over time This Role May Not Be the Best Fit If… You have not yet had experience leading or co-leading a classroom You prefer to work independently rather than as part of a collaborative teaching team You are not comfortable stepping into different roles throughout the day based on classroom needs You are not confident taking initiative or supporting classroom leadership when needed You are not comfortable with the hands-on, physical aspects of working with infants and toddlers Qualifications 2+ years of experience in a childcare setting, with classroom leadership experience preferred Experience with infants and/or toddlers Experience in a licensed childcare center strongly preferred CDA or coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred Strong communication, reliability, and teamwork skills Compensation & Growth $50,000 - $55,000 annually , based on experience Clear pathway to Head Teacher roles with increased compensation as leadership responsibilities grow Opportunities for professional growth within a rapidly expanding program Our Philosophy At three little birds, children learn, play, and grow through a play-based curriculum filled with creative exploration, movement, art, and meaningful experiences—where children thrive and explore with joy.
