Job Description

Teacher's Aide Primary Position Purpose:
Teacher Aides perform teaching and non-teaching duties to assist teaching staff in the facility to provide care, supervision and assistance for children in the Pueblo of Pojoaque Early Childhood Center.
Primary Duties:
Assist all staff to maintain a safe, happy and healthy educational environment Assist and participate in activities which improve the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of children in the center Assist in the development of a curriculum which is relevant and reflective of the needs of the assigned age group (infants, toddlers, or preschool) Must maintain confidentiality at all times Prepare indoor and outdoor areas for learning or recreational activities Supporting children with intellectual, physical and behavioral difficulties Assist children individually to learn social skills Assist with the preparation of teaching aids Distribute and collect lesson materials Provide assistance to small groups of students Attend and participate in all staff/parent meetings Promote the Tewa language instruction Must be punctual and dependable and give at least 48 hours' notice to teacher(s) and director regarding an elective leave (e.g. doctor appointment) and two week notice for a vacation Must secure a substitute when you leave the classroom Personal (non-emergency) telephone calls will be made during lunch breaks Complete necessary paperwork (e.g. accident reports) Help ensure a well-planned early childhood program Support positive guidance of children and relationships with parents and family members Check for broken equipment/supplies Must conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times (e.g. maintain confidentiality, work cooperatively with team members, maintain dress code, etc.) Help maintain a sanitary and tidy facility (in and out doors) Assist children as needed (toilet training, diaper changing etc.)
Knowledge Required:
Good communication skills (with teachers, children and parents) Patient in dealing with children Mature and sensible Able to work as part of a team Enjoy helping children learn Able to accept direction and supervision Maintain a drug free environment
Physical Demands:
Bending and lifting required. Incumbent must adhere to all safety precautions and standards.
Work Environment/Working Conditions:
Office/classroom setting with some travel required.
Job Related Qualification Standards:
Must be willing to work with infants, toddlers, and preschool children Working toward the completion of their 45 hour course and/or CDA Maintain current CPR and first aid certification Participate in continuing education activities (e.g. in-service training, workshops and Tewa language instruction) Must have a valid New Mexico Driver's License Must pass Drug and Alcohol background screenings
