Position Type:
Full-Time, 10-Month (School Year) Position Summary The Special Education Aide supports the academic, behavioral, and functional needs of students with disabilities by assisting special education teachers in providing individualized and small-group instruction. This position ensures students receive the necessary accommodations and supports to access the curriculum in an inclusive and respectful environment. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstructional Support:
- Assist with the implementation of IEP goals and accommodation under teacher direction.
- Work with students individually or in small groups on academic and functional skills.
- Reinforce teacher-provided instruction and monitor student progress.
Behavioral & Social Support:
- Support students in developing positive behaviors and social interactions.
- Provide supervision and redirection during transitions, unstructured times, and activities.
- Assist with behavior intervention plans and data collection as directed.
General Student Support:
- Support students with mobility, communication, and self-help skills, as needed.
- Accompany students to general education classes and provide assistance as required.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Collaboration & Documentation:
- Collaborate with special education teachers, general education staff, and related service providers.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and follow all FERPA requirements.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development related to student needs.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work patiently and respectfully with students with diverse needs.
- Must pass a background check and complete required training.
Preferred:
- Experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting.
- Associate's degree or higher, or completion of paraprofessional certification. Skills and Attributes
