Candidates must hold NYS Teaching Assistant Level I, II or III Certification, or NYS Teacher Certification.
Note:
The selected applicants will be subject to fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001. Farnsworth Middle School is seeking a full-time probationary (tenure track) teaching assistant for its Reading Department. Teaching assistants in the Reading Department work closely with reading teachers in the preparation and delivery of remedial reading instruction. They also support students with curricular literacy demands across a variety of settings and are highly valued members of the Reading Department.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
A positive, child-centered philosophy The ability to support students with literacy demands in general education, special education, and remedial classroom environments under the direction of the classroom teacher Strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate with students, colleagues and supervisors Excellent organizational skills The ability to assist with the design and delivery of remedial reading instruction with small groups or individual students Good judgment, problem-solving skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality Regular attendance, acceptance of responsibility, willingness to follow established procedures, cooperation and the ability to react appropriately to changing work conditions are normal expectations of the job.
