Job Description
We are currently seeking a full time Teacher Aide to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to support the classroom teacher by assisting students throughout the school day, often on a one to one (1:1) basis. This is a 10- month position, beginning in September, with the option of an additional 6 weeks during the summer session. There is also potential for advancement to a Certified Teaching Assistant (CTA) position, if appropriate skills are acquired and a CTA position opens within the program. Parkside Preschool is a private, not-for-profit, New York State Department of Education approved school for children ages three- to five-years with special needs. Parkside Preschool provides center-based and community-based services to families residing in Putnam and Westchester counties. In our center-based program, our school's primary focus is to serve children with severe communication or learning difficulties and autism spectrum disorders. Required experience, skills & qualification: HSD or equivalent, experience working with preschool children or children with special needs preferred; A positive attitude; Comfortable with following directions; Flexibility with respect to assignment (including one-to-one work with children and assignment to other classrooms); Able to respond appropriately to stressful, challenging and occasional emergency situations. This position requires physical coordination, stamina, and agility (e.g. ability to run, sit on the floor, lift non-ambulatory children, negotiate uneven surfaces and playground equipment, work in hot and cold weather). Parkside is located in a free-standing preschool building on attractive grounds in Mahopac (near Route 6).
