Job Description
Position Summary The Green Vale School seeks a full-time Pre-K Assistant Teacher to support the social, emotional, and academic development of young children in a joyful, play-based learning environment beginning August 31, 2026. At Green Vale, we believe that joyful learning is deep learning. Through play, exploration, and meaningful connection, children build the foundation for curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. The Pre-K Assistant Teacher will support classroom instruction, help bring a developmentally appropriate curriculum to life, and provide thoughtful guidance to students throughout the day. The role requires close collaboration with lead teachers, administrators, and families to support the mission and goals of the school. In addition to the primary responsibilities of the role, the Pre-K Assistant Teacher will participate in school events, team meetings, and professional development opportunities as an active and engaged member of the Early Childhood community About the Green Vale School The Green Vale School is a co-educational, independent day school serving students from Preschool through Grade 8. Located on a beautiful 40-acre campus on the North Shore of Long Island, approximately 25 miles from New York City, Green Vale has served families in surrounding suburban communities for more than 100 years. Essential Responsibilities Support the lead teacher in implementing a play-based, developmentally appropriate Pre-K curriculum rooted in joyful learning. Help create a classroom environment where curiosity, creativity, and connection are at the center of each day. Foster a warm, safe, and engaging classroom where every child feels known, valued, and a sense of belonging. Support students' social-emotional development through modeling, guidance, and responsive, relationship-based interactions. Assist in preparing classroom materials, learning centers, and documentation that make children's thinking and learning visible. Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, outdoor play, and special events. Collaborate with colleagues and administrators to support departmental and school initiatives. Participate in faculty/staff meetings, school events, and professional development opportunities. Contribute positively to the broader school community. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field required. Experience working with young children, preferably in an early childhood or independent school setting Experience with play-based, child-centered classrooms preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of early childhood development and the role of play in learning. Demonstrated ability to support young children's social, emotional, and academic growth through engaging, hands-on experiences. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and work as part of a team. Commitment to professional growth and best practices in early childhood education. Alignment with the mission, values, and philosophy of joyful learning at The Green Vale School. Compensation Salary is commensurate with experience, the range is $38,000 - $40,000.
