Job Description

Job Summary:
Classroom Assistants provide supplemental instruction to students in support of the school district curriculum. This part-time position will be for the school year from September through June beginning at 2:15 PM.
Job Responsibilities:
Reinforce classroom lessons by reviewing material in various areas of studies with students one-on-one. Assist students with completing daily homework assignments. Help foster curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. Get equipment or materials ready to prepare for lessons. Provide feedback to the Life Center Assistant Director or Director regarding student progress, lesson plans and students' development. Assists with loading and unloading students from buses. May pick-up students from nearby schools. Supervise the children at play and help with snacks, feeding and other basic care. Help students build lifetime skills in the areas of time management, organization and problem solving. Perform additional job duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School diploma (can be a Senior in High School) or equivalent is required; some college preferred. Prior experience working with children in a learning environment is desired but not required. Certifications in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid is a plus.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner. Excellent interpersonal skills; able to collaborate with and relate to a variety of people, including students, parents, and staff. Must be understanding and patient and able to work with students of different abilities and backgrounds.
Bilingual:
in English/Spanish is a plus but not required. Able to use different approaches to explain information to students who have different learning styles. Classroom Assistants work part-time after school in a classroom setting. May walk to and from nearby schools as needed to pick-up children. May travel on school buses and go on field trips as needed during the summer vacation programs. Physical requirements Frequent periods of sitting, some walking, bending, and lifting. Able to lift up to 25 pounds or more.
