Job Responsibilities:
The Teaching Assistant provides direct instructional services to students under the general supervision of a certified teacher. A Teaching Assistant supports the teacher by helping to supervise activities in the classroom, working with students on an individual, small group, or whole class basis. Teaching Assistants may be assigned additional responsibilities such as teaching classes on their own, covering planned absences and allowing teachers time for meetings and conferences. They may also manage other support staff and assist with recording student grades, data and reporting on student progress. Duties of this job require a knowledge of child development and interpersonal skills to coordinate instruction with the primary teachers as well as communicate with parents. 1. Supporting students across the curriculum. 2. Works with individual students as directed by teacher. 3. Assists the teacher with marking and correction work. 4. Assists with school events, trips, and other activities. 5. Assists in classroom behavior management. 6. Assists with routine classroom functioning. 7. Accompanies students when removal from a classroom is necessary or when the students must go to another part of the building. 8. Assists and supervises group and individual activities in the classroom. 9. Assists teacher in the implementation of activities that are required in CTE classrooms and labs. 10. Maintains working knowledge and ability to implement classroom and school wide safety plans. 11. Maintain confidentiality of student information. 12. Assume teacher responsibilities in the absence of the classroom teacher or as assigned. Job Qualifications Valid NYS Teaching Assistant Certification
