Teacher Assistant

This contract role provides essential support to students and staff, ensuring a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one assistance to students, supporting their academic and social development. Utilize PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) training or experience to facilitate communication and learning, especially for students with special needs. Offer classroom support for small group instruction if assigned to a smaller support role. Collaborate with teachers and staff to implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and adapt instructional materials as needed. Maintain a safe, supportive, and organized learning environment. Follow established protocols and assist in behavior management strategies.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

Previous paraprofessional experience, ideally within a school environment. Experience or training in PECS is highly preferred. Ability to work 1:1 with students requiring additional support. Flexibility to assist in small classroom roles as necessary. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Patience, empathy, and commitment to student success. This position requires candidates who can immediately support the school while the regular paraprofessional completes training. The school is open to internally moving employees to fit these roles as needed.
