In this vital role, you will provide essential classroom support to students with diverse learning needs, including those with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and other special education requirements. Your energetic and proactive approach will help foster an inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to implement individualized education plans (IEPs), support behavioral management strategies, and assist with daily classroom activities. Responsibilities Support students with disabilities by assisting with classroom activities, lesson plans, and curriculum development tailored to their individual needs. Provide physical assistance and behavioral support for students with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, or behavioral disorders to promote positive engagement and learning. Implement behavior management techniques aligned with IEP goals to encourage appropriate social and academic behaviors. Collaborate effectively with teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other professionals to develop and execute individualized support strategies. Use communication skills such as American Sign Language (ASL) when necessary to facilitate understanding and interaction for students with communication challenges. Assist in classroom management by maintaining a safe, organized environment conducive to learning for children of various ages including preschool and early childhood levels. Support literacy education, basic math skills, and other curriculum components through engaging instructional activities. Handle confidential information responsibly while supporting students' educational progress and personal development. Qualifications Prior experience working with children or students with disabilities in classroom or childcare settings is highly preferred. Knowledge of special education practices, including familiarity with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) guidelines and IEP development processes. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, or behavioral disorders is desirable. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and communicate student progress. Ability to provide physical assistance as needed for students requiring support during daily activities. Background in early childhood education, preschool or toddler care, Montessori methods or private school experience is a plus. Demonstrated classroom management skills combined with patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude toward student success. Knowledge of behavior management techniques tailored for students with special needs is advantageous.
