Location:
Heartland Middle School Primary Purpose:

The ESL Aide supports the campus ESL program by providing linguistic and instructional support to Emergent Bilingual (EB) students while assisting and documentation requirements of the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC). This position works closely with the ESL Lead Teacher, campus administration, teachers, families, and district Bilingual/ESL Department to ensure student records are complete, accurate, confidential, and processed in a timely manner. This instructional aide is responsible for supporting student achievement. They provide individual or small group instruction to students who are struggling academically. This position is also responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:

High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate Formal academic assessment, associate's degree, or two (2) years of study at an institution of higher learning Valid Texas educational aide certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to assist in instructing reading Ability to communicate effectively Proficient keyboarding skills Spanish Speaking (preferred)

Experience working with children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support 1. Provide linguistic and academic support to EB students as directed by the ESL Lead Teacher and/or classroom teacher to individual and small groups using district-approved resources. 2. Use local, state assessment, and formative assessments to help with instructing students in reading and math. 3. Maintain data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress. 4. Communicate with teachers, ESL lead teacher, and administration on student progress 5. Participate in meetings with teachers, and administration to discuss student placement and progress 6. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom. 7. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of instructional resources. Student Management 8. Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. 9. Make teachers aware of special needs or problems of individual students. LPAC 10. Gather and review required student documentation 11. Maintain an organized system for tracking newly enrolled and transfer students to ensure required LPAC documentation is completed within established timelines. 12. Working with the ESL Lead Teacher to verify that required documentation is complete prior to LPAC meetings. 13. Following up with families to gather parent permission forms or other required documents. Other 14. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance. 15. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned. 16. Communicate with students or parents on a regular basis. 17. Maintain confidentiality. 18. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
