Job Description
A Career with Purpose The Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA), Oklahoma Youth Academy Charter School (OYACS) is looking for a Paraprofessional to assist teachers and students in daily classroom curriculum. Basic Purpose The Paraprofessional is responsible for providing assistance to teaching staff in standard academic or commercial subjects, and to students in daily classroom activities or daily living skills in a state school, hospital, facility or institution.
Key Responsibilities Communications:
Establishes and maintains effective educational relationships with students and teachers. Communicates high expectations for all students. Promotes a positive environment and exchanges ideas. Substitute inClassrooms:
Maintains classroom management in accordance with OYACS standards. Keeps students at their curriculum pace even in the absence of the teacher. Assists the students with their specific content (all classes) without pausing the pace.Tutoring:
Assists students with practice and deepen their understanding of new and existing knowledge. Assist students in every class as needed. Provides assistance to teaching staff in maintaining discipline and order in the classroom. Types and copies materials for daily activities; assist in arranging and distributing material to students; assists with the operation of equipment used in the classroom by teaching staff and students.Schedule Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 7:15 AM - 3:15 PM Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma and one of the following: Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (no less than 48 hours of college coursework), OR Earned an associate's degree (or higher), OR Take and pass the ACT WorkKeys Assessment scoring a Bronze or higher The following requirements should be met within 120 days from hire: OSDE approved Paraprofessional training through career technology centers or other state-approved training providers Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) First Aid Training The following requirements shall be met yearly: Bloodborne Pathogens AND Six (6) hours of professional development Special Requirements All applicants must be physically able to handle the duties and pass the required training for this position. Applicants must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position, possess a valid Oklahoma driver's license at time of appointment. This position is a safety sensitive position as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8 (K)(1)(i)(2) due to providing direct childcare.
