Migrant Graduation Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY

The job of Migrant Graduation Specialist is for the purpose of coordinating the implementation of services for all migrant students at the high school and high school migrant OSY (Out-of School Youth). The graduation specialist will be the liaison between faculty and staff providing services to migrant students, school and district administration, family members and the community at large. The Migrant Graduation Specialist will work closely with the district's Migrant Education Program to ensure that this position is compliant with all federal and state regulations. The Migrant Graduation Specialist does not supervise any employees and reports to the principal or designee.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Establish a strong partnership and collaboration with the co-graduation specialist; Collaborate with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of migrant student outcomes such as On-Track for Graduation, Graduation and transition to Post-Secondary opportunities; Communicate with school and district staff, and with the larger community for the purpose of informing them of migrant issues and services; Complete monthly reviews of 9-12 grade migrant students' progress in meeting academic benchmarks and graduation requirements in order to ensure all migrant students will be college and career ready; Complete and keep updated all required migrant service logs; Assist migrant students with

Individual Student Planning:

goal-oriented planning, transition planning, college and career planning and parent/teacher conferences; Collaborate with school personnel to ensure that migrant students receive the necessary academic support to meet all academic benchmarks and graduation requirements; Collaborate with the building Multilingual/English Language Facilitator to determine the specific English language needs of migrant English Learners to ensure that students needs are being met; Collaborate with the building SPED facilitator to understand the specific needs of migrant SPED students to ensure that student's needs are being met; Establish and oversee extended day interventions for all migrant students not meeting grade level academic requirements; Develop and deliver extended day support for migrant students not meeting course proficiency; Responsible for Credit Recovery classes under the supervision of a licensed teacher; Coordinate , plan and present the JUNTOS program for migrant students at the high school as well as other required evening events; Maintain database of reading level placement, standardized achievement test scores, etc. for the purpose of ensuring appropriate, leveled instruction and required record keeping for State reports for all high school migrant students; Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment; Model appropriate English communication for developing students' ability to communicate effectively in the English language; Attend all appropriate Title 1C state meetings; Collaborate to identify migrant students to participate in the student migrant conferences such as the Oregon Migrant Leadership Institute and other leadership opportunities during the summer; Collaborate with the administrative team, counseling department, attendance department, migrant student/family liaison, co-graduation specialist and teachers of migrant students; Communicate on a regular basis with parents in order to keep them informed of their student's progress. Support the Migrant Family Liaison with the organization and facilitation of quarterly meetings with migrant parents. Report incidents (i.e. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to education code, administrative and/or school policies. Assist other teachers for the purpose of improving outcomes for migrant students. Support the attendance team with additional interventions to increase migrant student attendance. Prepares and Maintains accurate and updated records of services and learning activities on the Migrant Education Program (MEP) grad specialist service log, and within the MIS2000 database, in compliance with state and federal Migrant Education Program Guidelines.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position. Reports incidents relating to students or staff (i.e., accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education :

High School diploma or equivalent; 72 quarter hours of accredited college or equivalent education or passing score on Workkeys Test.

Experience :

Prior job related experience paid or volunteer with high school age children.

Skills :

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including a strong command of grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community. Proficient in operating computers, standard office machinery, telephones, and modern productivity technology. Capable of performing basic clerical functions accurately. Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to facilitate instructional activities and perform basic arithmetic calculations.

Knowledge :

Understanding of high school requirements for graduation. Comprehensive knowledge of job requirements and strict adherence to mandatory reporting laws.

Abilities :

Accurate, dependable, and self-motivated; able to work independently, manage deadlines, and adapt quickly to changing conditions. Maintains consistent attendance, models high professional character, and strictly protects the confidentiality of student and agency data. Works harmoniously with teams and communicates effectively across diverse cultures. Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is required. Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, move dynamically throughout school facilities, and lift/handle classroom materials. Requires standard visual acuity and clear verbal/hearing communication skills.

Continuing Education/Training Clearances :
