Job Description
Rising Stars Preschool is seeking a reliable, organized, and caring individual to fill our combined Preschool Director / Teacher Assistant position. This position includes approximately 15 hours per week of Director responsibilities and 4 hours per week of classroom Teacher Assistant responsibilities . As Director, you will oversee the day-to-day administrative operations of our small nonprofit preschool, including parent communication, enrollment, tuition and billing, recordkeeping, staff support, board communication, fundraising, and general school operations. As a Teacher Assistant, you will work alongside our Lead Teacher to support students during the preschool day, assist with classroom activities and routines, supervise children, prepare materials, and help maintain a positive and welcoming classroom environment. We are looking for someone who is dependable, highly organized, comfortable working independently, and great with both children and adults . The right person does not need to know everything on day one—we are looking for someone who is willing to learn, takes initiative, communicates well, and genuinely cares about our preschool and the families we serve. Responsibilities Director - 15 Hours per Week Manage the day-to-day administrative operations of the preschool Serve as a primary point of contact for current and prospective families Manage enrollment, registration, student records, and required documentation Oversee tuition billing, payments, account records, and scholarship administration Maintain organized financial and administrative records Communicate and coordinate with the Board of Directors Prepare information and reports for board meetings as needed Maintain employee records and assist with staff paperwork and scheduling Coordinate the preschool calendar, orientations, conferences, special events, and school communications Assist with fundraising activities, grant administration, and community partnerships Maintain preschool policies, forms, handbooks, and other organizational documents Help ensure the preschool remains organized and operates smoothly Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, employees, and organizational information Perform other administrative duties related to preschool operations as needed Teacher Assistant - 4 Hours per Week Work alongside the Lead Teacher to support classroom activities and routines Supervise and interact positively with preschool-aged children Assist with activities, projects, transitions, snack time, cleanup, and other classroom needs Prepare classroom materials and learning activities as requested Help maintain a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming classroom Provide individual assistance and encouragement to students when needed Communicate and work cooperatively with the Lead Teacher and other staff Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age High school diploma or equivalent required Strong organizational and time-management skills Comfortable working independently and managing multiple responsibilities Strong written and verbal communication skills Basic computer skills, including email, documents, spreadsheets, and online platforms Ability to communicate professionally and compassionately with families Dependable, trustworthy, and able to maintain confidentiality Comfortable working with preschool-aged children Willingness to learn new systems and procedures Ability to successfully complete required background checks and training Experience in early childhood education, school administration, nonprofit administration, office management, bookkeeping, or a related field is preferred but not required. We value transferable skills and are willing to train the right candidate. Schedule This is a part-time position averaging approximately 19 hours per week . Approximately 15 hours per week - Preschool Director Approximately 4 hours per week - Teacher Assistant Director hours offer some flexibility and include administrative work outside of classroom hours. Teacher Assistant hours are scheduled during preschool classroom hours. Occasional additional hours may be available or required for orientations, meetings, school events, fundraisers, registration, or other preschool activities. Pay This position has separate rates of pay based on the duties being performed:
Preschool Director:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hourTeacher Assistant:
$16.00 - $18.00 per hour Employees are responsible for accurately recording hours worked under each position. Employees must be able to sit on the floor, stand, bend, kneel, move throughout the classroom, assist with classroom setup and cleanup, and safely supervise young children. You don't mind switching between answering a parent's email, updating a spreadsheet, preparing paperwork, and then jumping into the classroom to help with preschool activities.
