Job Description

We are now accepting applications for a substitute Instructional Assistant for one of our Kindergarten classes. Hours are 7:45 am to 3:45 pm on days when school is in session. Position begins immediately and lasts approximately 2 months. The Instructional Assistant provides a Kindergarten classroom teacher with support and assistance in implementing an instructional program/curriculum that incorporates strategies and methods that address a wide range of learning styles, individual needs, interests, abilities, and maturity levels of students. The Instructional Assistant also supports the classroom teacher with providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment that is safe/multicultural/gender/ability-fair and in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Key Accountabilities:
Assists the classroom teacher in establishing and maintaining classroom management procedures to clearly communicate expectations to ensure an effective learning environment. Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher and facilitates an appropriate attitude of independence in all children. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher. Assists with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling, and assists students individually as needed. Organizes and leads activities, at the direction of the teacher, designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.
Position Requirements:
High School diploma/GED Prior experience working with children in school environment a plus Understanding and commitment to inclusive learning Ability to positively interact with students to encourage development Supportive, empathetic, nurturing and patient personality and excellent listening skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with all students, staff, and parents Ability to follow detailed instructions Excellent dependability and reliability Excellent attention to detail and follow through Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment Experience with MS Office Thank you for your interest in a position with School Lane Charter School.
