Classroom Teacher, Building Administrators Position Goal:
To be a team member that supports students in learning the skills taught by the classroom teacher.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Other duties may be assigned. The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties: Reviews instructional plans with the classroom teacher in order to implement daily instruction. Assists in planning and arranging a physical classroom environment that is conducive to learning. Assists in making teaching materials as needed by the teacher. Assists children during learning and planned activity time as new materials are introduced. Assists children with life skills, including but not limited to: toileting needs, cleaning up, taking turns, following simple directions, following safety rules, understanding safe versus unsafe behavior Supports students who exhibit behaviors by providing consistent structure, de-escalation strategies, modeling appropriate behaviors, collecting data, and consistent structure. Under the supervision of classroom teacher, works with small groups of students or individuals to reinforce material introduced by the teacher. Assists in supervising field trips, walking tours and bus trips. Participates in professional development. Participates in parental conferences. Conveys a positive, professional attitude toward learning. Ability to work effectively with students Communicates effectively with parents. Takes direction from classroom teachers. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee. This job description does not constitute an exhaustive list of responsibilities and management may revise it at any time.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE
Hold an Associate's Degree or higher or have earned at least 48 college-level credits. Or hold a High School diploma and be able to take and pass a local assessment that measures their knowledge and ability to assist in the instruction of Reading, Mathematics and Writing. Experience working with elementary children. Spanish-speaking preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to follow written and verbal directions. Ability to read, write and do simple computations. Ability to communicate effectively.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks. Ability to work under supervision and make appropriate work-related decisions. OTHER SKILLS and

Ability to work as a member of a team. Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with people. Must be cooperative, congenial and service-oriented. Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions. Ability to organize classroom setting to efficiently accomplish tasks. Good interpersonal skills. Good organizational skills.
