Job Description

For this position, you must be fluent in reading / writing / speaking Mandarin Chinese. Ivy Talent Education is a boutique college counseling firm serving families who seek thoughtful, strategic, and highly personalized guidance through the U.S. college planning and admissions process. We are hiring a Lead College Counselor fluent in Mandarin and English to provide advising to a select caseload of students and parents. The Lead College Counselor will independently manage complex student and family relationships, help develop junior counselors, contribute to counseling quality and strategy across the team, and play a senior role in consultations with prospective families. The ideal candidate combines deep admissions expertise with warmth, professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to lead and mentor other counselors.
Key responsibilities include:
Provide individualized college counseling to students and families. Advise parents and students fluently in Mandarin and English, including strategic conversations, written communication, and meetings. Mentor, coach, and support junior college counselors and new college graduate counselors at Ivy Talent as they develop their advising skills and professional judgment. Participate in prospective family consultations and build trust and credibility through thoughtful, consultative conversations about the college planning and application process. Develop long-term academic, extracurricular, and positioning strategies beginning as early as 7th to 9th grade. Enable students to develop their soft skills through mentoring, building leadership qualities, and creating / joining new clubs and activities. Guide college list development with careful attention to fit, selectivity, and family priorities. Guide students to identify their personal interests and brainstorm application essay topics. Prepare students for interviews and other evaluative components of the admissions process. Communicate thoughtfully and diplomatically with parents, balancing transparency with reassurance. Stay current on admissions trends, institutional priorities, and evolving policies affecting selective colleges.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Education, Counseling, English, TESOL, Psychology, or related field. Fluency in Mandarin and English (both spoken and written). 8+ years of experience in private college consulting, selective high school counseling, or college admissions. Strong familiarity with selective and highly selective U.S. colleges and universities. English writing, editing, and coaching skills. Proven ability to manage a student caseload independently while maintaining a high quality client experience. Demonstrated experience mentoring, coaching, or providing leadership to other college counselors. Polished, professional demeanor and excellent client-facing judgment. Strong interpersonal and consultative communication skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility with prospective families. Calm, confident, and collaborative in high-expectation family environments
Preferred Qualifications:
Background in U.S. college admissions or counseling at a selective institution. Prior experience in a boutique, highly personalized, or high-end advisory environment. Ivy Talent's office in Woburn is located 10 miles outside of Boston, Massachusetts. The office is easily accessible by both MBTA Bus #134 and car (with free garage parking).
Pay:
$115,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
