CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps members serve with local nonprofits, schools, and community organizations throughout central Pennsylvania to address community needs in Healthy Futures, Education, Volunteer Management, and Community Service. In this AmeriCorps service position, you will serve with Susquehanna Greenway Partnership in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania , helping communities throughout the Susquehanna River corridor strengthen their connections to the river through community engagement, outreach, planning, and community-based projects. Susquehanna Greenway Partnership (SGP) is a nonprofit organization that works to connect people, communities, and resources throughout the Susquehanna River corridor. Through partnerships with municipalities, community organizations, volunteers, and residents, SGP promotes conservation, outdoor recreation, community development, and public access to the river and surrounding natural resources. This is not a traditional employment position. It is an AmeriCorps national service commitment. Members receive a living allowance and benefits while serving and may earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award after successfully completing their service term. What You'll Do Your service will focus on supporting SGP's River Towns Program , helping participating communities build capacity, engage residents, promote outdoor recreation, and strengthen their connections to the Susquehanna River. As the River Towns Program Assistant, you will: Assist with outreach and communication to existing and prospective River Town communities Support onboarding activities for communities participating in the River Towns Program Assist with planning and facilitating community meetings, workshops, and partner events Help coordinate community projects and activities identified through River Town planning efforts Assist with developing and maintaining River Towns Program resources and toolkits Support the creation of story maps, community profiles, and digital storytelling resources Maintain program resources and documentation Support public outreach and education at events and community activities Help build relationships with municipal leaders, community organizations, and regional partners Participate in community outreach and tabling events throughout the region Help collect and organize program data for reporting and evaluation Support projects and initiatives that strengthen participating River Town communities Specific activities and projects may evolve based on program needs and the member's interests, strengths, and professional development goals. You will serve under the supervision of Susquehanna Greenway Partnership staff. This position supports and expands the organization's existing programs and does not replace employees or existing volunteer roles. Your Service Commitment Full-Time AmeriCorps Service Term September 2026 - August 2027 1,700 service hours Approximately 37.5 hours per week This is a primarily remote service position , with in-person service required for community meetings, outreach activities, tabling events, volunteer activities, and other River Towns programming throughout the region. Typical service hours are expected to fall between approximately 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening or weekend service may be required for community meetings, outreach events, volunteer activities, project implementation, or CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps convenings. The formal position description calls for occasional evenings/weekends and local travel based on programming needs.
Service Location:
Susquehanna Greenway Partnership 301 Market Street, Unit #649 Lewisburg, PA 17837 Local travel is required for community meetings, events, interviews, outreach, and other in-person service activities throughout the Susquehanna Greenway region. Living Allowance & Benefits AmeriCorps members are not employees of the service site and do not receive a traditional salary. Members receive a living allowance to help cover expenses during their term of service.
Living Allowance:
$21,415 , distributed throughout the service term
Segal AmeriCorps Education Award:
$7,395 upon successful completion of service Members may also be eligible for: Health insurance/health care coverage for eligible full-time members who do not otherwise have adequate coverage Student loan forbearance on qualifying federal student loans Payment of accrued interest on qualifying student loans during service Potential eligibility for the AmeriCorps Childcare Benefit Program CPR & First Aid certification CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps orientation and training Professional development, networking, and community engagement opportunities What You'll Learn Along the Way The primary purpose of this position is service , but members also gain hands-on experience through the work they perform. During your service term, you may develop experience in: Community planning and facilitation Stakeholder engagement and partnership development Project management and implementation Public outreach and communications GIS and mapping tools Digital storytelling Program development and evaluation Data collection and outcome measurement Community engagement Nonprofit program operations Grant-supported program experience Who We're Looking For You do not need extensive professional experience to serve.
Applicants must:
Have a high school diploma or equivalent Have a valid driver's license Have reliable personal transportation Be able to successfully complete required National Service Criminal History Checks Have strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Be dependable and punctual Be able to work independently in a primarily remote environment Be able to manage multiple projects and timelines Be comfortable communicating and building relationships with community partners Be comfortable attending in-person meetings, outreach activities, and community events Be able to work outdoors and travel locally as needed Be willing to receive feedback and work as part of a team Be committed to community service and the AmeriCorps mission An interest in community development, conservation, outdoor recreation, or regional planning is strongly encouraged. Proficiency with Microsoft Office is expected, while experience with GIS, mapping tools, and Canva is preferred. What Success Looks Like Your service will help
