The Department of Theatre and Performance at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a 2-year, non-tenure track Visiting Teaching Professor instructional position that will begin August 10, 2026. We seek an individual with expertise in Performance, Theatre Studies, and Direction. The successful applicant will be expected to be an effective teacher and will have a [3-3] teaching load. Teaching may be required for courses in Playwrighting, Acting, and Dramaturgy, as well as topics such as Feminist Theory or Shakespeare, depending on the candidate's specialty.

Required Qualifications:
A Master's degree. Demonstrated experience as a performing artist with an active performance portfolio. Ability to teach compelling courses in any of the following areas: Playwrighting, Acting, and/or Dramaturgy, Feminist Theory and/or Shakespeare. Ability to teach other performance courses, and to contribute to acting curriculum using contemporary/recent training that relates to performance pedagogy Ability to contribute to departmental productions as displayed through sample syllabi, teaching evaluations, directing credits, production roles, diversity of course offerings, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
An MFA or Ph.D. or ABD is preferred at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2026). Previous teaching experience. Demonstrated experience as a theatre director with active and ongoing industry work.
Conditions of Employment:
This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional overnight and weekend work as needed to meet the business needs of the operation. Applicants are encouraged to reflect on teaching and mentoring practices that advance academic excellence and success of all learners/scholars in theatre in any of the aforementioned required documents.
