The Department of Theatre and Performance at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a 2-year, non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor of Theatre and Performance specializing in Costume Design, beginning August 10, 2026. We seek an individual with expertise in costume design for theatre and dance, costume construction, costume crafts and related fabrication, hair and make-up design, and history/period style in fashion and attire. The successful applicant will be expected to be an effective teacher and will have a [3-3] teaching load. Mainstage design and/or mentoring of student designers is recognized as part of the teaching load.

Required Qualifications:
An MFA in costume design or related field is required at the time the appointment begins (August 10, 2026).
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous teaching experience. Industry design experience. Applicants must apply online at https://go.wm.edu/VphZB3. A portfolio of design work, either uploaded as a document or provided as a link to an online portfolio. Evidence of teaching and mentoring practices that advance academic excellence and success of all learners/scholars; And a reference page with the contact information (including names, email addresses, and phone numbers) for three references. Applicants are encouraged to reflect on teaching and mentoring practices that advance academic excellence and success of all learners/scholars in theatre in any of the aforementioned required documents. Candidates who reach the short-list (Zoom) interview stage will be prompted to submit online the names and email addresses of three references who will be contacted by the system with instructions for how to submit a letter of reference. Conditions of Employment:
