Aug 25, 2026 Job Description East Greenwich Public Schools is seeking applications for Building Paraprofessionals working in individual assignments.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Functions as part of the instructional team to assist the teacher in the achievement of classroom objectives. Assists teachers in the instruction and reinforcement of instruction of all students, including those who have been identified with disabilities, individually and in small groups.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher. 2. May assist the teacher in the classroom in the review, make-up, or continuous learning activities for a student or small group of students according to procedures established by the teacher. 3 . May assist the teacher in the instruction of students with identified disabilities. 4. Provides routine clerical support to teachers. 5. In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, monitors and supervises students and/or continues lessons during short-term teacher absences. 6. Serves as the chief source of information and assistance to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher. 7. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information. 8. Under the direction of the building principal, supervises students during play periods, lunch periods, detention, and during student arrival and dismissal. 9. Operates all office equipment as required. 10. Successfully completes required job-related training. 11. Assists the teacher in maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment. Takes appropriate action when behavior becomes disruptive, uncontrollable, or harmful to the child or others. 12. Assists in the planning of IEPs under the supervision of the teacher. Functions as a member of the IEP team by attending and participating in IEP meetings. 13. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Strong oral and written communication skills. The capability of responding simultaneously to a variety of needs for students and staff while maintaining a high degree of sensitivity to individual needs.
INTERPERSONAL AND PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS
Ability to interact with students, staff, and members of the community in a pleasing and positive manner. Ability to effectively handle issues utilizing a personable problem solving approach.
TEAM BASED SKILLS
Capable of working collegially with all levels of administration and staff.
PLANNING SKILLS
Ability to prioritize the needs and requests of students and teachers within the school setting and respond in a professional and efficient manner.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Demonstrated proficiency in essential computing applications as required.
