Middle School Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning-Winman Middle School

Commensurate with School Committee Administrative Pay Policy Appointment to this position will be effective at the start of the 2026-2027 work year for Middle School Assistant Principals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Design and implement structures that promote: The alignment of teaching and learning of the school to the state standards and assessments. The development and implementation of a learning walk-through protocol to inform a continuous improvement toward rigorous standards based expectations. The development and implementation of tools to collect and analyze classroom data to inform instruction and provide meaningful feedback through an instructional decision-making process that supports student achievement. The development of an instructionally supportive assessment system that informs student learning. Work with teachers in their utilization of instructional tools and strategies with a focus of continuous student growth and achievement. The development of opportunities for students to have more control of their education through meaningful learning experiences, expanded opportunities for proficiency based learning and varied pathways. The monitoring and evaluation of the impact of instruction on student learning and achievement. 2. Fully utilize the evaluation system to support teaching and learning. 3. Collaborate with department leaders (and instructional teams, MS) to guide instruction and student growth within each department/team and throughout the school 4. Utilize assessment data to support teaching and learning and inform curriculum development 5. Understand the curriculum of the district, specifically how it relates to and impacts instruction 6. Collaborate with, and help develop;, school administrators as it relates to a shared vision for teaching and learning 7. Develop a job-embedded professional development plan for the school as a whole, and for educators which is designed to meet their needs and encourage continuous professional learning 8. Develop, coordinate and facilitate professional learning communities (PLC) that seek to engage all educators and promote distributive leadership among all staff 9. Facilitate and recruit participating for the EWS Leadership Team, School with Data Team, and School Improvement Team 10. Collaborate with district level educators in matters that relate to district vision, strategic planning, instruction, curriculum, standard and assessment 11. Collaborate with the Director of Technology to evaluate potential platforms for assessment data and instructional management, as well as technological tools for instruction and professional development 12. Continuously strive to be adept in 21st century evidenced based instructional practices and initiatives as they relate to the middle school using: Standard based grading Technology (i.e. Blended and Digital Learning) Student centered instruction Personalized learning College & Career readiness Growth mindset 13. Coordinate ALL State and diagnostic testing 14. Determines, in collaboration with the Principal, additional school related responsibilities as it relates to the benefit of the school overall.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Candidates must hold the Bachelor's and Master's Degree from an accredited college or university and be eligible for a Secondary Principal's or a Building Level Administrator certification issued by the Rhode Island State Department of Education.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will be judged on the basis of qualifications for the position. The person whose qualifications are considered to be the best among the candidates shall be appointed to the position. Among the qualifications to be considered are: previous experience in and outside the field of education, educational background, professional activities and involvement, knowledge of educational issues and trends.
