Special Education Teaching Assistant (Part-Time)
LOCATION

Part-Time/Non-Exempt
PAY SCHEDULE/GROUP
$20/hr. for approximately 25 hrs./wk.

EVALUATION
Evaluated annually by the Principal.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Special education assistant position that provides quality services for students with various disabilities who require support in a highly specialized setting. Assist individual student with academic, functional, and personal needs. Responsible for helping to maintain positive student behaviors in the classroom.
EDUCATION
Completion of an Associate's Degree is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Experience working with students with autism and other disabilities.
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
Must be Highly Qualified; CPR/First Aid Certification
PREFERRED
Annual training updates in Crisis Prevention Intervention. Training in applied verbal behavior strategies for children.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Follow a schedule to support assigned individual student Present instructional materials to individual who has been identified, assessed and diagnosed as having mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and/or autism. Assist the classroom teacher in the administration of special programs, such as literacy and reading programs; assist the classroom teacher with assessments and testing. Guide student independent work and enrichment work by supervising individual students. Distribute materials to student as needed; assist in material preparation for individual lessons/activities; make copies of instructional materials; file copies for future use. Supervise and assist student in the bathroom, classroom, hall, lunchroom, playground; escort student to other classes or areas of the school. Monitor Student health, watching for illness or injury; may administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a healthcare professional (e.g diapering, tube feeding, medication, etc…) for the purpose of meeting immediate health and basic care needs. Supervise student during arrival and dismissal Supports the teaching of daily living skills. Assist with behavior modification, report student concerns directly to the classroom teacher, and assist with student resolution; participate in the implementation of student behavior plans for the purpose of ensuring an effective and safe learning environment for all students. Assist in the development of students' positive socialization skills and behaviors. Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Maintains confidentiality of student records. Works cooperatively with faculty members and the district office. Fulfills professional responsibilities beyond the classroom. Participates in professional development programs. Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Assistant should be familiar with Evidence Based Practices used with students with Autism (such as utilizing visual supports, AAC strategies, social skills instruction and ABA techniques). Should also be familiar with sensory strategies to support a student with self-regulation and familiar with deescalation techniques to support a student in times of crisis.
