Salary Range:
$14.15 per hour, subject to increase based on experience. This position includes employee benefits. The job of Education Assistant - English as a Second Language is done for the purpose/s of assisting a certificated teacher in the supervision and instruction of individual and/or small groups of students; and providing instructional and clerical support to teacher/s and staff. This job reports to English as Second Language (ESL) Coordinator and Assistant Superintendent. General Requirements
Experience:
Job related experience is desired.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Certificates:
48 college units, AA degree, OR demonstrate college level skills by passing the Para proficiency test within 60 days of hire date, /parapro/register/at_home_testing
Clearances:
Employment is contingent upon a Criminal Justice Fingerprint/ground Clearance, paid for by the applicant. Essential Functions Administers a variety of tests for the purpose of assessing student growth and inputting/recording scores into student files. Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. reading stories, listening to students reading, language, spelling, facilitating activities, colors, number charts, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts and reaching their academic goals and potential. Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. Implements instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of improving students' academic success through a defined course of study in conversational English. Maintains students files/records (e.g. adapting instructional materials, cleaning work area, checking homework, grading papers, audio visual equipment, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing reliable information. Modifies classroom work/homework for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce classroom objectives. Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, lunch room, library, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school rules and procedures regarding student behavior and participation and/or providing a safe and positive learning environment. Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. copying, decorate classroom, collect/distribute supplies, displays, bulletin boards, phone calls, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or in providing necessary records/materials. Promotes good habits for the purpose of improving the quality of students outcome and encouraging student development. Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE
is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; stages of child development and learning styles; and age appropriate activities. ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific Ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions. Responsibility Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; There is some opportunity to effect the organization's services. Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.
