Job Description You can view the full job description here. Houston County Middle School (HCMS) in Erin, TN, is a close-knit campus of approximately 300 students. HCMS seeks a reliable, engaged educational assistant. As a Special Education Assistant at Houston County Middle School, you'll be a flexible, hands-on partner who adapts to whatever each school day requires. Whether guiding a small reading group, collecting behavior data, or helping a student access accommodations from an IEP or 504 Plan, you work with certified teachers in the special education environment to ensure every learner stays engaged and supported. Your day will focus on supporting the needs of students in special education assigned to your caseload. You'll prepare learning materials; assist students with note-taking, learning, and completing assignments; use Chromebooks and Google Apps (e.g., Classroom, Docs, Slides); and assist classroom and special education teachers in ensuring all students have access to learning.
This is an active role:
you may lift up to 30 lbs of materials or adaptive devices, stand or kneel beside students, and move quickly to redirect or de-escalate as needed. Success requires patience, appropriate and confidential communication with students, families, and interdisciplinary teams, and the ability to maintain the confidentiality of students and colleagues in a small community.
